FAQ

Only those age 21 and over are able to participate in the Urban Bourbon Half Marathon.  You must be age 21 on Oct. 25, 2014, to register.

How long is the race?
The Urban Bourbon Half Marathon is a 13.1 mile race

What time does the Race start?
The Half Marathon begins at 8:30 a.m. EST

How do I register?
You can register online at our secure site. Click on the Registration tab and follow the directions.  Online registration for the Half Marathon will close on Oct. 21, 2014. Remember – there are no refunds.

Is there a capacity limit (cap) on the races?
Yes, the capacity for this year’s race is 3,400 participants.

May walkers participate in the Half Marathon?
Yes, walkers may participate, but they must be able to keep a 15:00 minute per mile pace in the Half Marathon. Roads will reopen at this pace and course services are not guaranteed to be available past this time.

What events do you offer?
A half marathon and corporate challenge.

Where is the Start Line?
The start line for the Half Marathon is at 2nd and Main Streets at Whiskey Row.

Where is the Finish Line?
The finish line is at 5th and Main Streets across from the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience.

What time does the Finish Line close?
The Finish Line will close at 12:00 p.m.

Do you have an official race hotel?
Yes. The Galt House Hotel & Suites is our official headquarters hotel. It is conveniently located one block from the start line, and is adjacent to the finish line. The hotel is offering a special rate of  $129 in the Rivue Tower, or $139 in the Suite Tower.  Just call 1-800-The-Galt (843-4258) and ask for the Urban Bourbon Half Marathon.

Are headphones, ipods or MP3 players permitted?
You may wear your headphones, ipods or MP3 players; however, we ask that you keep the volume at a reasonable level for your own safety and out of courtesy for fellow participants.

You should still be able to hear participants and volunteers in proximity to you.

Do I need to return the chip?
No. We are using disposable chips this year that DO NOT need to be turned in after the race.

Are strollers allowed?
Strollers and pets are not allowed in the Half Marathon.

What is the temperature that time of year?
According to weather.com, the average high is 70 degrees Fahrenheit and the average low is 49 degrees Fahrenheit.

Where should I park?
There is plenty of parking near the course. You can view a map here.

How far apart are the water stations?
There are 7 water stations strategically placed on the course.

Do I receive a medal?
All Half Marathon and Corporate Challenge finishers receive a medal.

What will I receive for participating?
Participants in the Half Marathon and Corporate Challenge will receive tech shirts, virtual goodie bags and finisher medals. Participants also have access to hydration drink stations, medical stations providing Vasoline, ice and first aid. The finish line offers a post-race party on the Belvedere.

What is the route for the half marathon?
The course information can be found by clicking the “Course” Tab at the top navigation.

Is there a place to keep my keys and extra clothes?
Yes, Gear Check will be available at the start and finish

Is bib-swapping permitted?
Yes. Bibs can be swapped until Oct. 1. There is a $25 processing fee.

Can I defer my registration?
You can defer your registration until 2015. You must email info@louisvillesports.org no later than Oct. 1, 2014,  if you wish to defer. There is a $20 fee for processing deferrals.

When is the last day to register?
The last day to register online for the Half Marathon is Oct. 21. You can register on Oct. 23 and Oct. 24 at packet pick-up for $100.

Where do I get my race packet?
Packet pickup for those participating in the Half Marathon and Corporate Challenge will be at Slugger Field. Packet pickup will take place on Thursday, Oct. 23 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m., and Friday, Oct. 24  from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. You will need a copy of your registration confirmation and a valid photo ID that shows date of birth (e.g., driver’s licence or student ID).

Can someone else pick up my packet for me?
No. Since this race is for those age 21 or over, each runner is responsible for picking up his/her own packet.

Can I pick up my packet on race day?
There will be NO CHECK-IN or PACKET PICK-UP on race morning.

What types of wheelchairs are allowed?
Push-rims are the only style of wheelchair allowed. The top three male/female wheelchairs are recognized in each event.

Are there bathrooms on the Half Marathon course?
Bathrooms will be available (typically porta-potties) near water stations along the Half Marathon course.

How do I get my results?
You will be able to get results on the UrbanBourbonHalf.com website by 7 p.m. race day.

What are the street closures?
The following streets will be closed during the following times:

Muhammad Ali (3rd Street to E Chestnut Street) 7:30 am – 12:00 pm
East Chestnut Street (Wenzel Street to Baxter Avenue) 7:30 – 11:50 am

Cherokee Park 7:30 – 10:45 am
Cherokee Parkway (Willow Avenue to Grinstead Drive) 7:30 – 11:00 am
Grinstead Drive (Lexington Road to Baxter Avenue) 7:30 – 11:30 am
Baxter Avenue (Cherokee Road and Broadway to Liberty Street) 7:30 – 11:50 am
9th Street (W Jefferson Street to W Muhammad Ali) 8:15 am – 12:00 pm
Muhammad Ali (3rd Street to 13th Street) 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Main Street (13th Street to 12th Street) 8:00 am – 12:00 pm

What is the cancellation policy?
Sorry, there are NO refunds for cancellations.
